The Public Opinion Research Lab at the University of North Florida conducted a survey of 797 active registered Republican voters between July 14 through Jul 22, 2025. Participants were asked if they were supportive or not supportive of legislation to allow medical aid-in-dying for qualified individuals with a terminal illness. Results showed 65% supported aid-in-dying versus 31% opposed. When asked about a legislator’s stance on aid-in-dying, 66% felt it was important to understand a legislator’s position.
This information is important for legislators to understand that their active registered Republican constituents overwhelmingly support aid- in-dying. The lack of aid-in-dying legislation results in Floridians leaving Florida, traveling to a state that allows someone with a terminal illness to seek a peaceful death…a death based on their own beliefs and values. Those who are not able to travel because of their illness or financial considerations are potentially subjected to unnecessary and extended pain and suffering.
The actual questions and results are documented here:
Question #1.
Last session the Florida Legislature considered a medical aid in dying bill that would allow a terminally ill patient, for whom two physicians have determined has under six months to live, the right to request and receive a prescription for medication to end their life. This would only be an option for patients who are acting voluntarily, capable of making their own healthcare decisions, and are able to self-administer the medication. Would you support or oppose this law?
Those who supported medical aid-in-dying were closely split between men (64%) and women (66%). Education showed 62% had no college degree, while 70% had a Bachelor of Art or higher degree. The Race/Ethnicity was closely matched between categories, Hisp/Lat 61%, White 65%, Other 67%. The majority of supporters were between 56 – 64 years old (75%), with 35-54 years old and 65+ years old groups at 65%. The supporters were differentiated by Region with North FL at 63%, Central FL at 64%, and South FL at 68%.
